Things to Work on these Next Few Weeks

I can't believe how close we are to the end of the year! These next few weeks are going to fly by! As the year is coming to a close, we will begin our end of the year assessments soon. For math, please continue to work on math facts to 5 in both addition and subtraction. Students should be able to know at least 10 facts within a minute. For language arts, continue reading the books your child takes home in their book buddy bag. Also review the kindergarten required sight words for the year. Students should be able to read all 20 sight words within a minute. Students should also be able to write all 20 sight words. The sight words for this quarter have been a little tricky and we only have a few weeks to work on them and may need some extra attention! Thank you for all your support at home! These are going to be some fun and crazy weeks! Please let me know if you have any questions about anything that will be going on these two months!

Get cozy with your family around the camp fire and listen to some bedtime stories with Mr. V in the Miller gymnasium from 7:00-7:30! **Wear your pajamas and bring a towel, blanket or sleeping bag!

You may have received  an email me about a website called Ziggedy. This site will help our classroom earn money for books, games and other supplies by making your usual online purchases. In less than half hour our classroom earned $20 from parents signing up, installing the Ziggedy reminder and my own personal online purchase! Wow! 

Before going to make an online purchase, log into your Ziggedy account and search for the retailer you plan on purchasing from. Click on their site and make your purchase! You must click the link through the ziggedy website to earn money for our classroom! Please feel free to share the link with family and friends! Thanks so much for your support!

Heinens 5 Star Dinner Winter Festival

Valentine's Day Pictures

Our parties were so much fun! Thank you to all the parents that put time into planning and organizing them! Check you email for some photos from the Day! We also had an assembly with a local dentist! He came and talked with the school about healthy foods and taking care of your teeth!

Valentine's Day Party

Our Valentine's Party Day is this Thursday, February 11. Please send in Valentine's that your child can pass out to the class. Your child only needs to sign his/her name on the card. A Few Notes

*We have been writing sticker stories during Work on Writing at centers. We are going through stickers pretty fast! We will welcome any donations of stickers to add to our writing center! Thanks so much!

*Thank you so much to everyone who has been ordering from scholastic books! I have gotten many free books for our classroom library! This  month, every one gets a free Peppa the Pig book to keep!  Look out for the new catalog coming out in February! There will be a coupon attached for a free book with purchase!

*Please encourage your child NOT to bring in any toys to school. We have had some distractions and lost toys recently! They will be safest at home! Thanks so much!

3rd Quarter Writing Unit: How to Books

We have emptied out our writing folders as we finished up the narrative writing unit. We will now be focusing on How to Books. We have begun to explore how to books and notice how authors write How To books. We also went through the steps of building a snowman to write a class book on How to Build a Snowman.  During this unit we will be brainstorming ideas for our books: Things we know how to DO, MAKE, AND BE! Talk with your child about things they can write about! When doing activities at home (getting dressed, brushing teeth, playing a game etc.), you can talk about the steps you took to do that activity.  We will be talking about transition words: First, second, next, last etc and how those words help us teach the reader exactly what to do! We will also be reinforcing using sight words, spaces between our words, starting with a capital letter and ending with punctuation. 

Informational Books (Non Fiction)

To go along with our How to Books, we will also be reading many informational books.We will be practicing comparing and contrasting informational books, talking about the facts we have learned from reading these books and noticing how informational books are written (they include facts, headings, diagrams with labels, maps etc.) When reading informational books at home, talk with your child about what they have learned and noticed about the books
