Lake Farm Park

We had such a great time on our field trip to Lake Farm Park, the weather was perfect! We got to see many different farm animals including some piglets and calves! We also got to milk a cow and make apple cider! Here is the link to the photos from the trip!

Shared Reading

During our shared reading time we have been focusing on identifying characters and retelling the stories we have read. We will also learn about identifying the setting of a story this week too! When reading with your child at home ask them about these three important parts of a book!

Field Trip

Our Field Trip is this Friday, September 18. All students will be coming to school in the morning. If you are a p.m. parent, check with your neighbors to see what time the bus comes by in the morning or drop them off at school by 8:55.  If you are an a.m. parent, check to see what time the bus comes by your neighborhood for the afternoon drop off. If you are picking your child up after the field trip, don't forget pick up time is at 2:00.

Please remember to pack a fully disposable brown bag lunch. We will not be able to save any reusable containers or water bottles.

Mindset

The staff at Aurora City Schools have read a book called Mindset by Carol Dweck.  In this book, we learned about the importance of building a growth mindset in our students.  People with a growth mindset believe that basic abilities (intelligence for example) can be developed through dedication and hard work.  This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.  In a fixed mindset, people believe that intelligence and talent are fixed traits.  They believe that talent alone creates success without effort.

This year, we will be focused on encouraging a growth mindset because it creates motivation and productivity.  It teaches children to welcome challenges, to persevere and accomplish things they may never have believed they could do!  We are teaching them that mistakes are ok, because we learn from them!  We are teaching them that they may not be good at something YET, but they will be, with hard work and effort!

Look for a handout in your child's folder! Please contact me if you have any questions or are interested in learning more about Mindset.  I am even willing to loan you our book!  It is a great read!

Twitter Updates

I know many of us don't have a twitter account, I am new to it myself! I didn't have an account until this summer! I will be posting reminders and updates on my Twitter account periodically. You DO NOT need a twitter account to get these tweets! Below is a link to directions on how to receive my tweets via text messages. After you find your cellular carriers short code, you can text follow@missatyler to get those updates! Happy Tweeting!

Field Trip Information

Check your child's folder today for a permission slip for our Lake Farm Park Field trip on Friday September 18. Both the a.m. and p.m. classes will go together ALL DAY! I will be in need of  2 chaperons from each class. Please email me or send in a note if you are interested! All names will go into a hat and be drawn by Miss Sherry! Permission slips are due by Friday 9/11.

Blue Book Videos

Just a quick note: the alphabet cards are hard to see in some of the videos. Under the homework tab, I have added an alphabet tracing book and alphabet tracing chart (these are new updated pictures we use in the classroom now). You can print the alphabet tracing book and cut the pages in half and use those cards for the letter/sound portion of the video. If your child is fluent with both letters and sounds, you may print the chart and have them follow along with the letters. Your child should be familiar with how the tracing book works. If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to contact me! Thanks so much for your support at home!
